Hazard returned to Stamford Bridge for the first time since his £90m move in 2019. However, his reunion went down badly as he was seen smiling and laughing with his former colleagues Kurt Zouma and Edouard Mendy at full-time.

Hazard’s action after the 2-0 loss attracted unfavourable reactions from fans as they took to social media to vent  their anger.

Hazard has since taken to Instagram to issue an apology, saying it wasn’t his ‘intention to offend Real Madrid fans’ and that it is a ‘dream’ to play for the club.

“I am sorry. I have read a lot of opinions about me today and it wasn’t my intention to offend Real Madrid fans.

“It has always been my dream to play for Real Madrid and I came here to win.

“The season is not over and together we must now battle for La Liga. Hala Madrid!”

Hazard has endured a miserable spell since joining Madrid from Chelsea in 2019 – with just 755 minutes of Champions League football this season.
